| Biography |
Professor Krisztina Károly has been the Head of the Language Pedagogy PhD Programme, more recently called the Language Pedagogy and English Applied Linguistics PhD Programme of Eötvös Loránd University between 2005 and 2009, and then since 2013. She is also Head of the Doctoral School of Linguistics. She obtained the DSc degree of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in linguistics in 2016, the habilitation degree in 2007 at the Doctoral School of Linguistics of Eötvös Loránd University, and the PhD degree in English linguistics at the English Linguistics PhD Programme of Eötvös Loránd University in 1999. Her main fields of research are discourse analysis and translation studies. She has won several research grants and has participated in a large number of national and international research projects on the study of EFL discourse competence, English for Academic Purposes, cohesion and coherence in translation, translation in the media, academic translation and discourse level translation strategies. She has published her work nationally and internationally in over 100 papers and 6 books, she has edited over 15 volumes in English and Hungarian, and has participated at over 90 conferences as presenter or keynote speaker in Hungary and abroad. She has been the supervisor of over 30 PhD students. She is editor-in-chief of the Q1 international journal Across Languages and Cultures, which publishes articles in translation and interpreting studies, Advisory Board member of the Benjamins Translation Library book series (John Benjamins), and also works as editorial board member or reviewer of over 10 journals (e.g., Fordítástudomány, Hungarian Journal of Applied Linguistics, Perspectives: Studies in Translatology, Target. International Journal of Translation Studies, Translation Studies, Meta: Translators’ Journal). |
